In every city throughout the United States, there are a lot of bakeries. The majority of them produce a product that is pretty much average. The pastries they create are sweet, the coffee is good enough, and the additional beverages or snacks they offer will do in a pinch.
However, in every single town, there are few bakeries that have developed the reputation for being phenomenal. The question is, what is it that takes average everyday bakeries and turns them into something that is just amazing? Well, the truth is that there are a lot of different factors that come in to play.
First and foremost, you want a bakery that is clean. A bakery that does not do well on their health department score is just not a place anyone is going to eat at. No amount of good pastries or delicious coffee is worth it if it means that after you eat it you get sick.
One surefire sign of a good bakery is a bakery that has a display case that is full of food. If the display case only has a couple of items that are stuck in a box or that are laid out on a tray, something’s wrong.
Why? Because a good bakery has the ability to anticipate the needs of their customers. They will constantly be making fresh supplies to make sure their customers get what they want, when they want.
If there are huge gaps in a bakery’s display case, you can bet that they had too much food from the day before and had to throw some of it out, or they didn’t make enough for their customers. Either way, it is not a good sign.
A good bakery is going to have a large selection of different things. This is true of a bakery that just makes cupcakes, if it just sells bread, or if it just makes cakes and cookies. Regardless of what they sell, they should have a huge variety of them.
A good bakery has more than just chocolate cookies or vanilla cookies. They experiment with new ideas, and they tailor what they produce to meet the tastes and likes of their customers.
Finally, a good bakery is going to have nice supplies. The trays, the display cases, the bakery casters, the uniforms of the employees, and the ovens are going to be well-maintained. They may not be brand-new, but they are going to work well.
Finding a good bakery is hard. But when you do, it is well worth the search.
