Gourmet coffee is delicious, but it can be expensive. Many people think to get gourmet coffee, they have to go to an expensive cafe. Or even worse, to go to a trendy place in Europe. This is not true, with a little bit of work and research, anyone can have gourmet coffee from home, that is much cheaper than the alternatives. Not only that, but it can actually taste better once you master the art of making gourmet coffee. Many people spend 5 dollars a day on coffee, this can add up to a lot of money over time. Doing it at home will save so much money. Not only that, but it is very convenient to make at home rather than going out for coffee.

Use More

Most people do not have an espresso machine at home, this is because of cost and it is not practical. Simple all you need to do is double the amount of coffee you would normally use, this will give the same strong taste and effect as an espresso, at a much lower price.

Buy a nice grinder for your home. When you buy coffee beans, buy full beans and bring home. When you grind beans, only grind beans that you are going to brew at that moment. This enables the coffee to retain a fresh taste, with much more consistency. Buying coffee in a bag already ground takes a lot of the flavor out, leaving even an expensive coffee tasting bland.

Store Correctly

Do not put your good coffee in the light, or a moist or warm area. It loses its strength and flavor the longer it sits out. Also make sure to put in an air tight container, some people even put their coffee in the refrigerator or freezer. This should not be necessary unless you take a long time to drink your coffee.

A coffee brewing machine at a discount store for 10 dollars is not the machine you want. A coffee press can really make the coffee more enjoyable, it is a more pure and natural flavor. When using a paper filter in a coffee machine, it really can take away from the flavor of the coffee, making it rancid at times. The taste is much better, that is why you can request it this way at any good coffee shop. This method also saves money as no paper filters are used. Not only that, it is good for the environment.

Many people use unfiltered tap water for their coffee. That is fine if you are drinking cheap coffee without regards to taste. But for a truly flavorful experience, you need good water. Simply put, you cannot make good coffee with bad water. You do not have to go out and buy bottled water, but at least putting it through a filter will help it retain flavor.

In reality, most ways to make good coffee at home involve nothing more than taking time. Taking time to choose the right coffee and equipment. A lower end coffee can be delicious if made with good water, and ground up right before making. While at the same time using a coffee press. In Europe, where coffee is generally much better, the only difference is they take time and pride in their coffee. If you do too, you can enjoy the same great taste while saving a lot of money.
